The Way of the Spirit: Reflections on Life in God
The Way of the Spirit: Reflections on Life in God
By Archimandrite Aemilianos of Simonopetra
But whenever we want, our heart can open and at once the great transformation will take place. And this is an opening to the spiritual fire, to the Holy Spirit, to Christ, to God. Do we want this? Will we unlock our heart? It all depends on whether we want to love God or continue loving our selves. And we do decide to stop living on our own and throw open the doors for the light to enter, then we'll discover that, while we were looking for God, we also found our fellow man, for now we realize that there are people all around us. - from "On Spiritual Rebirth"
From the Introduction:
The Way of the Spirit is a collection of twelves spiritual talks by Elder Aemilianos, who from 1974 until his retirement in 2000 was the Abbot of the Sacred Monastery of Simonopetra on Mt. Athos. While many of the talks were originally addressed to monks and nuns, we believe that they speak without distinction to all who thirst for God. Union with God, not through words or theories, but through experience and illumination, is the goal of our sojourn on earth, and it is precisely this teaching that flows from each page of this book.
